Programs and Services

Pathways services can be broken down into main areas of: Animal Assisted Therapy and Animal Assisted Learning. These areas include the following:

Animal Assisted Therapy

Therapeutic Riding: Utilizes the horse as a therapy partner for people with physical, cognitive, emotional or behavioral disorders. Students ride in groups, and activities and games are designed to fit the needs of the students in each class. These classes are currently offered once a week on Wednesday evenings, but more classes will be added at different times as needed.

Animal Assisted Learning

Experiential Learning: Utilizes the horse as a model for learning social, behavioral and academic skills for life management. Our programs consist of themed activities that allow the student to see, hear, feel and in all other ways experience the theme of the day and the benefits of using that theme in everyday life. Themes used include: trust, honesty, respect, communication, responsibility, setting boundaries, setting goals, acceptance of self and others, self-reliance and many others. We have courses designed for people dealing with specific issues in their lives ranging from substance abuse, abuse or neglect, eating disorders, to those dealing with divorce, grief, behavioral issues or depression. If we do not currently have a program to fit the needs of someone, we will develop a program for them.

These classes are offered in the evenings. Currently, Pathways only offers classes with horses, but as we grow, we intend to add programs with other animals as well.

Traditional Riding Lessons: Pathways also offers traditional riding lessons for those who are interested in learning to ride and learning about horses. In these lessons, the student learns horse care skills as well as riding skills, with the goal being that if the student eventually wanted to have their own horse, they would know everything involved in caring for them. These lessons also help keep our horses in shape for therapeutic classes. These classes are offered during evening hours.
