Meet Our Horses
At the core of the programs at Pathways Animal Assisted Therapy, Inc. are our wonderful therapy horses. These animals are kind-hearted and intuitive, and are what make our programs possible. The job of a therapy horse is demanding, and those horses that can do it and do it well are rare gems. We’d like you to meet our horses, so we’ve provided pictures and a short bio on each one:
Louie
Louie is a 9-year-old paint gelding and is our newest addition to our herd. He is learning quickly how to be a therapy horse, and loves the attention from everyone he meets in his new home. He is very sweet-tempered and can be a little timid, so calm and quiet riders suit him best. He is very sensitive and responsive and tries very hard to do whatever is asked of him. Louie is a bit of a loner around other horses, though every once in a while you will see him hanging out with the mares, as the ladies seem to like him. *Sponsor Louie
Leo
Leo is a 22-year-old Quarter Horse. He is about as laid-back as they come, and is a perfect beginner horse. Leo rarely gets excited about anything, other than food. He takes very good care of his rider and is an excellent confidence builder. He is a big boy, so he can be a little intimidating at first, but riders soon find he’s as sweet as can be. Leo is used in Therapeutic Riding and Experiential Learning classes. He is an ex-show horse and has also worked cattle in his past. He likes his back scratched and will let you know exactly where it itches most.
Leo is sponsored by Becky Meyer.
Banjo
Banjo’s registered name is “Popsicle,” but he prefers Banjo. He is a 19-year-old American Saddlebred. Banjo is very sensitive and responsive and is a bit speedy, so his sidewalkers always get their exercise in class. He loves to be around people and get as much attention as possible, so he loves class time. He will follow you anywhere if he thinks you may have something for him, and may even run off with something of yours just to get your attention. Banjo loves to play in the water, whether the pond, a mud puddle, or sticking his feet in the water trough if he doesn’t get sprayed with the hose.

Bungie
Bungie’s registered name is “Sunny’s Arctic Storm.” He is an Appendix Quarter Horse. Bungie is 10 year olds, and at 16.2 hands, is a very big boy. He was shown extensively in western and hunt seat before coming to us and is quite well trained. Bungie is a big horse, but his calm and quiet temperament makes him an excellent lesson horse for Experiential Learning and independent riders. His size makes him useful for Therapeutic Riding with larger adult riders. His size does make him difficult to sidewalk with, but he has a wonderful attitude and is fun to work with. Bungie likes everyone and is a big ham when it comes to attention. *Sponsor Bungie
Ace
Ace is an 8-year-old Halflinger-cross pony. He is just learning to be a therapy horse, and is working on riding and driving. He is quiet, laid-back, and he just loves kids. Ace is on a perpetual diet, as he’s what we call an “easy keeper.” He doesn’t get to spend much time in the pasture as a result of this, so he enjoys whatever company he can get. He hangs out with Trigger in the pony pasture most of the time, and they are good buddies. He loves attention and enjoys being brushed. *Sponsor Ace
Midnight (retired)
Midnight is a 21-year-old Quarter horse. Before he came to Pathways, he had several different careers. He was a show jumper, a 4-H horse, and was even in the Color Guard at Ft. Riley (that's where the US brand on his shoulder came from). He was retired to another therapeutic riding center before he came to Pathways and is a great addition to our program. Midnight is very friendly and has just enough spunk to make him fun. He is used in Experiential Learning and Therapeutic Riding, and works well with independent riders. Midnight is an old pro in just about everything we ask him to do, and is sensitive and responsive to his riders. Midnight is a real ladies man, and likes to hang out with the mares when in the pasture. *Sponsor Midnight
